How do we make a difference now?
by Mr Lebowski inthose of us raised as jw's were taught that "it does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step".
we were repeatedly told that without god, humans were incompetent and doomed to fail at any endeavour.. i personally believe that this teaching, that we as individuals do not make a difference, is possibly the largest doctrinal harm done to jw's, and one of the toughest to overcome.. so, for those of you who were raised in the wts and left, what do you choose to do now to make a difference in the world?
why did you pick that avenue - or why do you think you've waited up till now?.

Why do members here have a fascination with telling us they're leaving ?
by run dont walk inmaybe i am way out of line with the comments i am about to make, and i may offend some people, this is not my intention ............ but why do members of this board make a big deal that they are leaving the board ???.
i just don't get it, are we all here, like a big circle of friends, would you tell your immediate circle of friends you won't see them anymore because you have no time ???.
you do not have to post everyday or every week here, i take a break sometimes because yeah i don't have the time to post or start a topic, so, but it irks me when people say their life is too busy, or they have others thing to do and will not be posting here anymore.

best wishes to all
by Mr Lebowski inwell, the last few weeks have been entertaining... and they have reminded me that i have built up my life to a point where "former jw" is pretty low on the list of my defining attributes.
and that's good.. while i want to serve as a support for those re-creating themselves after leaving, i think the best way that i can do that is by being happy, successful, and fulfilled, rather than letting "former jw" move back to the top of the list.
farewell, all, and remember - living well is the best revenge.. love and doughnuts,.

How Does One Just Go Back To Family & Friends After Leaving The "Truth"?
by minimus inif you've left all your family and friends for "the truth" and then you realize how everything you did was for nothing, how do you just go back, especially, if it's been 25 years???
my wife is going thru this dillema right now.
my daughter just went to a family member's birthday party for the 1st time yesterday and my wife feels as though she is unable to be involved because "what will the family think of her after all the birthdays and celebrations" she missed?

Suppose You Said "I Forgive the Watchtower"?
by metatron inyou may be confronted with relatives and witness friends who annoy you, with self-righteous comments about "coming back.
to the 'truth' and other judgemental urgings.. suppose you replied "i forgive the watchtower society for the terrible things they've done, i need to do that so i can progess as a. spiritual person".. such a response might be very disarming - and difficult to counter.. witnesses generally reject the notion that the watchtower can ever do anything wrong - rationalizing that any cruelties they.
inflict are somehow part of a greater divine purpose.

to ex-jw's specifically: with what have you replaced your belief system..
by thebeliever inhow do you now understand the world... and your place in it?.
i personally believe in evolution... and also a "higher power"... it seems more and more people are drifting away from organized religion, but they are then left searching for meaning and purpose..... going to college/university and studying a normal curriculum, one is exposed to philosophy, the socrates and platos of history, who in many ways started widespread discussion on such topics as above.
some sort of philosophy has to be studied i believe, just so one can understand the history of man, from that point in time and how we came to christianity in the first place.. however, it is a very personal matter, as we must all find our own answers.. i believe it is natural for people to be drawn to ponderings of purpose and god, and there are many ways to seek connection to that souce.

Is there one thing that convinces you that the JW's are wrong ???
by run dont walk indoctrines, people, elders, family, beliefs, is there a certain thing that convinces you they are wrong ???.
had a discussion with my mom the other day and she asked "how can you be so sure they are wrong ?".

Will you ever meet God or Jesus?
by freedom96 ini know this is bound to open up a lot of topics here, especially those who want to make clear their opinion that god does not exist.. that being said, this is for those who do believe in god.. .
do you believe in a heaven, and if so, when you get there, in your opinion, will you ever personally walk up to god or jesus and talk to them face to face?.
as i left the witnesses, i have gotten a better understanding of the bible, and my personal belief is that we do have a heavenly hope.

what is the # 1 reason people join the JW's ??? what attracts people ???
by run dont walk inbeing brought up in the borg, i always envied my friends that did not have to go in service, go to meetings, and waste their weekends away, i have never really been able to understand why someone would join the jw's unless they were born (forced) into it.
aside from maybe coming from an abusive lifestyle or relationship, or had serious drug/alcohol problems, this i could understand how the religion helped them get back on track.
so why do people join ???
